The Joint Pilot Activities
Installation of Water Level Gauge Stations
- Purpose: To grasp water level fluctuation of the wetland. The water level is very important and essential baseline information to manage all of conservation activities.
- Outcome: 4 stations were installed and started to monitor in 1.Nahang Roga, 2.Sorkhankol, 3.Sosar Roga and 4.Abkenar in October 2015. Remote monitoring can be available by mobile network.
- Future Plan: Monitoring should always be conducted to manage the wetland ecosystem.
- Topic: According to the result of water level monitoring, the water level at Sorkhankol Wildlife Refuge is almost the same as that in the Caspian Sea during dry season. It rises in conjunction with increasing rainfall and the water level at Sorkhankol keeps about 10 cm higher than in the Caspian Sea. Further accurate trend of water flow among Sorkhankol , West lagoon and Caspian Sea will be clarified after precise leveling which is now ongoing.
