An Environmental Education (EE) workshop was held in 13th December 2016 in Anzali Wetland Environmental Education Center (EE Center) located in Selke Wildlife Refuge.
16 members of Sarzamin-e-ideal ma Environmental Institute (SEI) as one of the counter parts NGOs in EE Subcommittee (SC) under Anzali Wetland Ecological Management Phase-2, participated in this workshop in order to develop the implementation of experiential EE program by utilizing EE Center and its attached facilities.
At the beginning of this workshop Mr. Bazdidi the Managing Director of SEI NGO explained the importance of NGOs cooperation for Anzali Wetland conservation and mentioned the conducted programs by this NGO such as Water Hyacinth removal activities as well as implemented workshop for local people in Chekovar village, and emphasized on necessity of continuing education programs.
Then Mr. Ghezel Hossayni (Head of EE division of DOE Gilan) provided strategies in order to promote environmental activities, Knowledge and institutionalizing citizenship behaviors regarding the environment. He noted that the performance of environmentalist NGOs in Iran and their role in developing the public awareness and voluntary activities is considered highly effective in protecting the environment. Mr. Ghezel Hossayni expressed the hope for further cooperation in conserving the Anzali wetland resources, especially wise use and providing further public awareness.
After this part, all of participants went outside to experience the real nature by bird watching activity and by using binoculars and telescope they could watch the existing birds such as Grey Heron, Egret, and Cormorant, Black-necked Grebe, Marsh Harrier, Graylag Goose as well as Flamingo in Selke Wildlife Refuge from Bird hide and the Bird watching tower. They also observed the aquatic plant such as Azolla by using the provided microscope.
Mr. Watanabe, the Environmental Education expert from JICA Expert Team, introduced the center and conducted EE programs and activities under project in cooperation with NGOs, especially SEI NGO and explained how to develop the EE in Selke by NGOs. He asked that NGOs member of EE SC under the project manage the center rapidly to open for visitors and tourists during the holidays and on weekends. He explained the aim of construction EE center in Wildlife Refuge is accessing the real nature in order to promote experiential based outdoor activities.
At the end of the workshop the participations discussed how to improve the center, and expressed their interest to manage and cooperate as the nature guide or instruct the visitors in center.
