Opening Ceremony of World Wetlands Day Festival

World Wetlands Day event named “Friendship with Nature” was opened in presence of Anzali district officials and more than 150 children in Anzali center of Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adult (kanoon), and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Expert Team supported the festival technically and financially.

During this 7 days event with the presence of children, young adults, families, and instructors by focus on the implementation of targeted activities such as biodiversity of wetland, and scientific workshops, organizing wetland tours, Origami Workshop, Book reading, Painting using Organic Color, Showing Environmental Films, Games and other scientific and environmental activities, aims to raise students understanding about Wetlands, especially Anzali Wetland.

Mr. Ziaee, Director General of Kanoon, explained about four years of cooperation with DOE, and JICA Expert Team in implementing Environmental Education Activities for children, young adults and even experts and instructors of Kanoon to make them more sensitive to consider and act for Anzali Wetland Conversation up to now. In addition he mentioned about the third World Wetland Day Festival in with JICA Technical and Financial support.

Mr.Mirshams Momenizadeh, Governor of Anzali City, Expressed his pleasure for having these festivals to involve all students for protecting the nature claimed that conserving the Anzali Wetland, this God’s blessing needs the great effort of all people not only governmental organizations.

Mr. Tomoo Aoki, chief adviser of the JICA Expert Team of Anzali Wetland Ecological Management Project- phase II also expressed pleasure for the presence of children and young adults and explained the background of international cooperation between Iran and Japan for Anzali Wetland Conservation.

In the following, Mr.Aoki explained the history of cooperation between Kanoon and JICA that the event for WWD celebration is third time in the Project. And then he expressed gratitude for the first time that the event was held in Anzari City.

JICA exhibited the real size craft of Dalmatian Pelican in the Kanoon center in Anzali. JICA prepared the screen to show video of Dalmatian Pelicans in Anzali Wetland taken by drone as well.

Dalmatian Pelican is an endangered species and one of the heaviest bird with 10kg in the world. Recently more than 1,000 Dalmatian Pelicans winters in the Anzali Wetland. JICA and DOE conducted the satellite tracking of the pelican in 2016. As the result of survey, it was identified that the Pelicans migrated to Volga Delta in Russia.

In addition, JICA exhibited ninety-four beautiful photos of Kushiro Wetland in Japan taken by Japanese citizen. Mr.Ebina, Mayor of Kushiro City and Mr.Kikuchi, Secretary General of Kushiro International Wetland Centre, sent message panels which also were showed in the venue.

The exhibition is open every days from 3rd to 9th February 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every days except Fridays, and it’s free for all the visitors.
