Explanatory Meeting on On-site Sewage Treatment Project in Esfand Village, Somesara

A demonstration of on-site sewage treatment unit was held in Esfand Village on 9th February, 2016, about 80 village people, the village chief, the head of village council, Bakhshdar of central district of Semesara, Manager of RWWC Somesara Branch, experts of wastewater management in RWWC, expert of water environment in DOE Gilan, and expert of wastewater management in JICA Expert Team attended this event.

The event was organized by Sewage Management Sub-committee (SC) under the Anzali Wetland Management Committee. Main objective of the event was to enhance village people’s understanding on the importance of sewage treatment project for the environmental protection of the Anzali Wetland.

The Sewage Management SC has determined to implement “The Development Project of On-site Sewage Treatment System in Rural Area of Gilan Province” based on the national policy of Islamic Republic of Iran, and at the beginning the Sewage Management SC has launched the joint pilot activity to develop, operate and maintain the on-site sewage treatment units in Esfand Village which is located adjacent to the Anzali Wetland and was selected as a pilot village.

At the event, Mr. Fallah, expert of water environment in DOE Gilan, explained the importance of environmental protection of the Anzali Wetland. Next, Ms. Mojtabai, expert of wastewater management in RWWC, explained the summary of the development project of on-site sewage treatment system in rural area and the function of on-site sewage treatment unit. Finally, Mr. Kajiura, expert of wastewater management in JICA Expert Team, greeted participants cordially and asked them to cooperate with this joint pilot activity. After the presentations, the participants raised a lot of questions and discussed actively about the joint pilot activity and wastewater issues.

JICA Expert Team hopes strongly that this joint pilot activity will contribute to the protection and restoration of Anzali Wetland and the sewage treatment project will be expanded to whole rural areas in Anzali Wetland watershed.
