Anzali Wetland EE Center in Selkeh
The Anzali Wetland Environmental Education Centre was constructed by “The Study on Integrated Management for Ecosystem Conservation of the Anzali Wetland” in 2004 in order to promote the EE for the Anzali Wetland conservation. It is located adjacent to the Selkeh Wildlife Refuge in the central southern area of the Anzali Wetland. The centre is composed of various facilities; a one-storey building with one class room, a separate structure for restroom, a bird watching tower 6-m in height in the same site of the DOE guard station adjacent to the Selkeh Wildlife Refuge, a jetty between the building site and the refuge, a 50-m long wooden trail heading to the water area inside the refuge, and a bird hide at the end of the wooden trail in the refuge.
The EE centre and the facilities in Selkeh which had been constructed in the M/P Study were maintained and repaired in the Phase I Project between 2008 and 2012. In addition, a 330-m long path and a rest space were newly constructed in the Phase I Project.
The centre is the first wetland education centre in Iran, even though it is a small-scale facility. It has been used for EE activities by DOE Gilan and NGOs on an irregular basis.
In the Action Plan period, the EE activities will be conducted by not only using the Selkeh EE centre. However it is still the main facilities for EE for the Anzali Wetland conservation. It should be improved by constructing new facilities and be used more frequently. If you want to use the facilities for school experiential class, please contact the EE expert of DOE Gilan.
