A Bird Watching workshop was held on 29th January 2017 in Anzali Wetland Environmental Education Center, located in Selke Wildlife Refuge.

This program has been implemented in cooperation with Educational Organization (EO) Gilan, Department of Environment (DOE), and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), for 20 boy students of lower secondary Level of Sama Secondary school of Rasht.

At the beginning, the purpose of this workshop was explained to the students and they have received some information about the EE center in Selke, the implemented EE programs in this center in cooperation with EO and other related organizations and the attached facilities including Bird Hide, Bird Watching Tower, the Wooden Path, etc.

The participated students visited Bird Hide and Bird Watching Tower, and they could observed many birds wintering in Anzali Wetland by using the binoculars. While observing the birds, Ms. Yousefzadeh, the Environmental Education Expert from DOE, and Ms. Junko Masaki Environmental Education Expert from JICA Expert Team explained the current situation of Anzali Wetland, and the bird species.

Regarding the birds wintering season, it was a good opportunity for students to observed the migrate birds such as Dalmatian Pelican, Heron, Glaylag Goose, Black-headed Gull, Greater Flamingo, Hen Harrier, Ducks, Pintail, and other wintering birds in Selke Wildlife Refuge.

In indoor training, Project Newsletters (winter) was introduced to the participated students. In addition “Life in Anzali Wetland” DVD, one of the educational materials prepared in phase-1 project was shown to students, and they had good involvement in introducing “Wetland Ecosystem” booklet.

In the following, one of the student, Mr. Pouya Azadivatan, share his good information eloquently about mammal with students, and another students, presented about extinct bird.

At the end of the program students made a covenant to protect the environment like one of their family member, and save this valuable natural resource for next generation. They noted that it is needed to have all the communities for having a healthy, clean including water, jungles, pastures, and wetlands.
