Biotope Construction Starts in Selkeh

A biotope is German word which means an area of uniform environmental conditions providing a living place for a specific assemblage of plants and animals. In case of Japan, Biotope means an experiential place to observe plants and animals in addition to above-mentioned meaning.

JICA Expert Team proposed to make Small Island with aquatic plant as biotope. In addition, wooden bridge and wooden deck to the biotope near the bird hide in the water area in Selkeh Wildlife Refuge. The biotope is very effective to study and feel real nature in the Selkeh Wildlife Refuge. The student can touch the water and catch fish and frogs, etc. After completion of the biotope construction, the environmental education program would be upgrade and more attractive for students.

The construction of the biotope of JICA portion (west half of the plan) was started on 11th August, 2017. DOE portion (east half of the plan) will be started soon.
